Application Instructions for the Berlin Capital Program
What application materials are needed?
Please submit the following materials for your application through our Fulbright Germany Online Portal:
- Online application form
- Academic transcript(s) - uploaded at end of online application form
- Resume/Curriculum Vitae - uploaded at end of online application form
- Five of your most recent journalistic work samples - uploaded at end of online application form (for non-print media, submit a list of five (functioning) hyperlinks to work samples)

One letter of recommendation – to be uploaded separately by recommender
Please ask one professor/academic advisor (for student applicant) or one professional supervisor (for journalist applicant) who can aptly assess your work to submit a letter of recommendation via the Online Portal.
Please inform them that the letter of recommendation must: bear the official letterhead of their institution, must be signed, and should describe your professional and social skills, your commitment, and your potential for development. The letter of recommendation should be one page long and written in English.
In “Step 11” of the online application, you will receive an upload link to give to your recommender. Please provide your recommender with the link, where they can submit the letter of recommendation as a PDF file.
Please note that you can edit and submit the application form separately from the letter of recommendation. The letter of recommendation must be submitted by the application deadline.
The application deadline is November 5, 2025 (5:59 pm UTC+1 )
Selection procedure
All applications that meet the formal requirements and are submitted by the deadline will be included in the selection process. The submitted application materials are assessed by a selection committee appointed by Fulbright Germany that nominate candidates for program participation. We will notify all applicants of the outcome of the application process by February 2026.
Please note:
- applicants for the Berlin Capital Program must inform Fulbright Germany of any other grant or program applications for 2026;
- an applicant that is nominated for multiple Fulbright Germany programs during the 2025-2026 and 2026-27 academic years may only participate in one program;
- applicants that plan to participate in an alternative professional advancement program in Germany in 2026 are not eligible for this program;
- Fulbright Germany alumni, who participated in a program within the past five years, are not eligible to apply.
